We want to call this re-purposed driftwood, but driftwood often never had a particular (human) purpose in the first place. No trees were felled in the production of this bird-feeder, of that we can be pretty sure.
Imagine the distances these sticks have travelled. The oceans traversed, the islands washed up on, only to be washed back out. How many years at sea? What sea?
The Banda and the Java seas, I like to believe; bouncing off Ambon, Sulawesi and South Kalimantan in the Indonesian archipelago before finally being picked up off the golden sands of Bali.
Sanded smooth by nature, multiple sticks, all with their own unique stories have been fashioned by skilled artisans into a functional bird feeder with a rustic beauty. Each one unique in every way.
Now you can hang one in your garden, your plot or your balcony. As the birds perch to grab a morsel, take a moment to yourself. Close your eyes and imagine the stories the sticks would tell if only they could.
