This chess set is lovely to play on, lovely to look at and even lovely just to hold the pieces. The feel of stone in your hand is so much more satisfying than plastic or even wood. There is a tactile elegance to this chess set that is rare to find.
The board, which doubles as a case, is beautifully finished re-purposed teak wood inlaid with soapstone squares. The chess pieces are so exquisitely detailed it is a testament to the artisans who hand carve each and every one of them.
The Large Chess Set is, in short, a wooden hinged chess box with soapstone board on top and double metal clasp fastening. Contains full set of carved soapstone chess pieces carefully stored inside in a moulded, velvet covered inner, designed to keep each piece separately cushioned. It was fully handmade in Saharanpur, India by fairly paid, skilled artisans.
Size: 305 x 305 x 45 mm.
Chess piece height: 3.5-6.5 cm
Not suitable for children under 36 months due to small parts.
