Jute is the second most important vegetable fibre after cotton and is a light, soft, shiny plant fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads for making all sorts of homeware that needs to be strong and durable.

Jute is a sustainable plant that is grown in regions of India and Bangladesh in a four month period just prior to the rainy season. It is fast growing and uses land that would otherwise be dormant at that time so increasing revenue for the farmers. 

The interesting thing about growing jute is that it hardly needs fertilizers and pesticides.

Jute fibre is a totally natural biodegradable and compostable fibre, it is therefore an extremely attractive renewable resource for those who are at the forefront of the environmental movement and those who give top priority to environmental and ecological concerns. 

It is little wonder that this seemingly humble fibre is also known as the 'golden fibre'.
