The Healing Power of Aromatherapy- A Rainbow of Possibilities. - Rainbow Life

… The Greek Physician Hippocrates, known as the ‘ Father of Western Medicine’, said in the fourth century  BCE…

“ The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day”

Certainly, the Greeks and later the Romans followed his advice.

Throughout time people have recognised the protective and healing power of plants and their aromas. The ancient Greeks held aromatics in high regard and the ancient Egyptians used aromatics for incense, embalming and perfume. The holy anointing oil that the Christian God directed Moses to make from ‘flowing’ myrrh, sweet cinnamon, calamus, cassia and olive oil would have been a powerful antiviral and antibacterial agent. Throughout the Middle East, aromatics were valued and written about by Islamic scholars over hundreds of years and the appreciation continues today when the walls of mosques are washed with rose and oud. Native Americans put fragrant sage and cedar on hot rocks in the sweat lodge for ritual purification and spiritual connection. At the coronation of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth 11 in 1953, the essential oils of neroli, rose, cinnamon, jasmine and benzoin were included in the coronation oil with which she was anointed.

Essential oils are truly holistic in that they affect mind, body and spirit. Put simply they make people feel better. They provide us with a fragrant pharmacy of remedy for all aspects of our lives.

Today many of us are increasingly aware of the number of synthetic chemicals in our lives, whether we like them or not. They leach from carpets and furniture, they are used in the production of food and in the products we put on our faces, hair and bodies. It may seem that escape from this onslaught is impossible but in fact we can replace surprisingly many shop- bought products with essential oils. We can use entirely natural body and hair products if we so wish. We can use them to make our own air fresheners, we can use them in the garden to encourage plant growth and to protect plants from insects, we can use them in the workplace to enhance concentration and focus, we can use them for emotional rescue and a host of physical and psychological conditions.

At Rainbow Life we have discovered that there is literally a staggering number of ways that we can use essential oils usefully and effectively and each time we use them we are making that choice to avoid chemicals in our lives.

The Aromatherapist Valerie Ann Worwood describes essential oils as ‘gems with many facets’.

..“ Hold one to the light and admire its antimicrobial features, turn it again to see how it can positively affect mind, mood and emotion. Each essential oil, like a prism, contains a rainbow of possibilities”.

Lavender oil for example has an incredible versatility. A few drops can be used on a minor burn, a drop rubbed on the temples for a headache, dabbed on a ribbon hung at a window to deter mosquitoes, on a cotton ball in the wardrobe to prevent moths, add to water for cleaning tables and floors or add to a spray for a natural air freshener.

Today we are fortunate enough to be able to look around the global village and choose from a huge variety of essential oils distilled from healing plants.

At Rainbow Life, as we learn more and more about the healing potential of these oils, we are steadily increasing our collections and we appreciate your feedback.

We have carefully selected for you a range of pure essential oils and blends, roll- ons and diffusers both for home, workplace and car, massage oils, essential oil candles, aromatherapy soaps, bath salts, body oils, scrubs and bath bombs.

We have acknowledged the particular stresses and difficulties that the current global situation has triggered and chosen oils and blends to address these needs.

As our mission is to enhance the health and wellbeing of our customers, we ask you to please feel free to contact us with any questions or requests and we will endeavour to assist you.
